"For me, success for Project Lions goes far beyond results on a scoreboard.
Of course, I want to see the potential of Singapore's top Pickleball players fully realised at the upcoming Pickleball World Cup and, one day, on the biggest stages in the sport. But Project Lions is not just about winning matches. It is about building a sustainable pathway for talented athletes to dream bigger than what is currently possible today.
Pickleball is the fastest-growing sport in the world, and while Singapore has incredible talent, passionate coaches and a rapidly growing community, the pathway for our athletes is still in its infancy. Too often, talented players hit a ceiling not because they lack ability, but because they lack the opportunities, resources and ecosystem needed to compete at the highest level. Project Lions exists to bridge that gap.

On a personal level, I often wonder how many talented Singaporean athletes never got the opportunity to fully realise their potential simply because the ecosystem wasn't ready for them. How many dreams quietly faded before they ever had the chance to be tested on the world stage? Project Lions is our attempt to change that.
Success is seeing our Lions develop into world-class competitors through high-performance coaching, mentorship and athlete development from our incredible partners at That Pickleball Academy. But success is also helping them grow beyond the court.
In today's sporting landscape, athletes need more than great results. They need stories, platforms and opportunities. We want to help our players build their personal brands, grow their digital presence and create meaningful value for the partners who believe in them. Our hope is that pursuing excellence in pickleball can become a viable long-term journey rather than a short-lived passion. We want to create an environment where talented athletes can focus on becoming the best versions of themselves, knowing that there is an ecosystem supporting them every step of the way.
Success is also seeing Singaporeans rally behind these athletes. To follow their journeys, celebrate their victories, feel their heartbreaks and become emotionally invested in their pursuit of greatness. We want Project Lions to transform international competition from something people simply watch into something they genuinely feel a part of. When a Lion steps onto the court wearing Singapore's colours, we hope an entire community is standing behind them.
Because the reality is that the journey to the top is never a straight line. There will be setbacks, sacrifices, doubts and moments when giving up seems easier. We want Singaporeans to be part of that story. To witness the blood, sweat and tears behind every achievement, and to know that they played a role, however small, in helping these athletes chase something bigger than themselves.
Most importantly, success is seeing Project Lions become a catalyst for the wider Pickleball ecosystem — bringing together coaches, clubs, facilities, brands, creators, businesses, supporters and hopefully one day public institutions, all united by a shared belief that Singapore can produce world-class pickleball talent.
Because no athlete reaches the top alone. It takes a village.
The dream isn't just to produce one champion. The dream is to build a system that continues producing champions long after we're gone. To create a pathway that future generations of Singaporean Pickleball players can walk — one that is stronger, clearer and more accessible than the one available today.
If Project Lions can inspire the next generation to dream bigger, create new opportunities for our athletes, unite different parts of the ecosystem, and give Singapore a team that the nation can proudly rally behind — then regardless of medals won, I would consider that a success.
We're not just trying to build better Pickleball players.
We're trying to build Singapore's first generation of Pickleball heroes.
Because every great sporting nation starts with a few people crazy enough to believe that their athletes belong on the world stage.
Project Lions is our way of saying that Singapore belongs there too. 🇸🇬🦁"
